A planning meeting will be held at Beth’s Cafe on Thursday January 15th at 8:00 AM to discuss possbile activities at a Winter Fest weekend as part of the Ice Breaker event planned by Christine Hoffer of the Towns & Villages of the Battenkill Valley.

Bring your ideas … Christine will also discuss plans for the April Battenkill Bike Race Tour of the BattenKill….

Regional Forum

The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a regional forum on what can be done to boost the local economy.

The event will be held on Tuesday, January 13 Rainer’s Gourmet Inspirations in Kingsbury beginning at 3:00 pm.

Main Street Grant

The Village and the Chamber of Commerce will be applying for another Main Street Revitalization Grant from New York State. These grants are a 50% match for exterior and interior renovations. If you’re interested, please fill out the Letter of Intent available at the Chamber of Commerce office.

The final target area for the Grant will be determined by the interest shown by the business community. The Letter of Interest should be submitted to the Chamber by Friday, October 31st.

We intend to apply for the following round of Main Street Grants next year as well.

Meeting Scheduled for August 4th

Over the past decade, the once dormant Main Street in Greenwich was brought back to life, one business at a time. Individual entrepreneurs saw an opportunity in Greenwich and worked hard to succeed. Their efforts were noticed locally to be sure, but also well beyond our community, even being highlighted by Liz Bishop in a feature story on the evening news.

However, as today’s economy continues to worsen, a growing number of storefronts along Main Street are empty. Each vacancy is one less reason for consumers to stop and spend their money in our community. Rather than attempt to wait out the storm and hope to survive, we believe property owners and retail merchants/business owners would be well-served to reach out to each other and plan not just for their joint survival, but for their joint success.

With that in mind, we would like to invite you to a joint meeting of commercial real estate owners, retail merchants, and business owners to discuss and brainstorm what can be done to insure that we all not only survive this tough economy, but thrive.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, August 4th at 14 Main Street. All ideas are welcome.
